Billiards
Billiards is a game which is played on the table using balls and cue sticks. Billiard ball games vary from place to place. Two popular billiard games are eight ball games and pool. In this game, there are 16 balls on the table out of which one white ball is used for striking. There is also a black ball which is known as a cue ball. This cue ball can be pocketed after a person pockets all 7 balls of either stripes or solids. There are six pockets on the table, one at each corner and two on the sides. The person who pockets the seven balls of his color category, that is, stripes or solids, and the cue ball first wins. Playing billiards can be very simple but getting the right equipment and maintaining it is an entirely different matter. When the person has all the right equipment, the game becomes enjoyable to play. So the most important thing one has to keep in mind is that the equipment he/she purchases must be of good quality. Quality is very essential when one plays with his friends. He/she must see to it that his/her friends enjoy themselves while playing billiards. If the quality of the equipment is poor, then the game does not become enjoyable. The first equipment needed is a good cue. If the person is a beginner, he/she should go for a cheap one. But this doesn’t mean that he should get the cheapest of all cue sticks. These are mostly of poor quality and often get spoilt. There are two kinds of cue sticks- hard and soft tip. Soft tip cue sticks are mostly preferred by beginners because the soft tip gives the ball a good feel during the shot. Professional pool players use hard tip cue sticks. The quality of the billiard balls makes al the difference in the game. Professional players use Belgian made Aramith balls as they have good balance and are meant for perfection. The material used to make these balls is long lasting and therefore these balls last 5 times longer than ordinary billiard balls. Billiard tables have changed a lot as times passed. In the past the tables were made of wood. But nowadays, the modern tables can even hold stale surfaces. These tables are also made in such a way that the ball moves smoothly. These tables are often prone to dust. So a table cloth is required to cover the tables after playing a game. These are special cloths which are made up of 10 % nylon and 90 % worsted wool. People decorate their game rooms in different ways to make it look colorful and appealing to play billiards. Some people install special lights to brighten the game room. Others purchase costly accessories to decorate their game rooms. All this is done for the sole purpose of making their friends comfortable when they come to play billiards. In some houses, people attach LED lights on the table so that while playing, the table lights up. In the clubs and discos, the pool tables are nicely decorated and so are the cue sticks. They paint eye-catching designs on the cue sticks.
